Can Steven Avery get a Federal Pardon?

Have you been following the story of Steven Avery on Netflix? Steven is a man from Manitowoc, Wisconsin who was wrongfully accused of sexual assault in 1985 and jailed for 18 years before being exonerated based on DNA evidence..... Only to be served a life sentence four years later after being convicted of the 2005 murder of 25-year-old photographer Teresa Halbach.

The narrative is actually continuing long after our binge-watch, because details about the case seem to be getting more and more compelling as the days pass. Filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos told the TODAY show that an anonymous juror from the 2005 murder case who personally voted to convict Avery recanted, saying they believe Avery was framed by the police.

Even as hundreds of thousands of people are signing petitions asking President Barack Obama to pardon "Making a Murderer" convict Steven Avery, the President's hands are tied. Constitutional laws regarding presidential pardons will keep Obama from utilizing the move for Avery. According to the United States Department of Justice, presidential pardons can only be used on federal convictions.

You can view the response received from the White House at petitions.whitehouse.gov.

Based on what you have seen, what is your verdict? Guilty or Not Guilty??
